Medicare can be quite confusing and there is a lot of information out there. Below are some useful resources to help educate you and begin to answer some of your questions. Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have as well.
Medicare.gov
Medicare.gov is the official US government site for Medicare and has a wealth of information. You can create a personal account that will allow you to access your Medicare information anytime, add prescription drugs and replace your card. The Medicare & You Handbook explains everything you will need to know and it a great place to start. You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
Enroll in Medicare
If you are 65 years old and over, under 65 years old with certain disabilities or have End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) you can enroll in Medicare. Some people will be automatically enrolled while others will not. Those who are automatically enrolled typically have been receiving social security benefits for over 4 months. If you are 65 years old and are currently employed you may or may not need to enroll. Please contact us to us to discuss specifics.
Medicare Savings Program / Extra Help with Prescription Drugs
The Extra Help program through social security is a program that you need to qualify for based on income and assets. It helps pay for prescription drug costs and other Medicare expenses depending on what you qualify for.
Medicaid
Medicaid helps pay for medical expenses and qualification is determined by income and assets. Medicaid is called TennCare in the State of Tennessee.
